Our African societies are making a mockery of this topic. It is myopic to focus gender equality and equity on silly topics like "who cooks and take care of the kids in a marriage setting".
We have so many African issues that should be explored.
Things like Abolition of Polygamy, female genital mutilation, child marriage, ownership of properties in the absence of male child, women empowerment, compulsory girl child education to mention only but a few should receive highest priority.
If your wife takes care of the bills or see to the well being of you and your kids by taking care of house chores I see no reason why decisions that affect the family shouldn't be shared.
